To call Grigor a son of the Temple is an understatement and a half. Born in 867 with the shadow of loss hanging over Gwidre, as a child he was taught the ways of The One God. Like many of his peers he took strongly to the teachings, training as a warrior and finally joining his village’s Blades at thirteen, a proud symbol of the strength of the Temple and the light of the neighbourhood. For three years his conviction in his sword held, until the day his home fell under attack by Feonda. Training drills made for poor experience against monsters, and with many of the Blades young men it only took a few loses before their courage fled and they fell back to the sanctuary of the church. The ancient enemies’ refusal to enter was prove enough of divinity, but Grigor’s path was altered when the old priest stepped forward and summoned blinding light from his hands, scattering the monsters back to the darkness from which they came.

Once the defences had been repaired and reinforced Grigor went to the old man and asked about his powers, learning that they were gifted to the higher members of the Temple. Such power had succeeded where steel and man could not, and the priest confided to Grigor that the power of The One God was known to push back the Feonda. With this new knowledge in hand, Grigor had new purpose: not to merely enforce the Temple’s teachings but to spread them so that all men could been saved as he had. Forgoing the sword for stringent praying Grigor turned his sight to Tri-Kazel as a whole. Gwidre knew the right path and Reizh was too far gone in dirty heresy, but Taol-Kaer could be saved. Grigor promised to become a missionary and left within the year, setting up in Osta-Baille among the poorest and most in need of the light of God.

But while the Temple was worshipped and respected in Gwidre, Toal-Kaer was still hurting from the war and those that had begun it, and Grigor’s zealotry about saviours and heaven earned him more than his fair share of broken noses, and over time he learned to balance preaching with good sense, aided by an amulet given to him by his father, who claimed it gave him the courage to speak to his mother. Similarly, Grigor found that wearing the runic symbol allowed him to nudge on-the-fence followers towards The One God’s virtues, although against those strongly against the teachings it has no effect. The greatest boon of his new temperance in speaking was converting a group of minor merchants of the new market in his followers, earning him enough money to build his first church in service of The One God. By the time the church was finished, it was no longer a matter of debt but of plentiful donations from followers old and new, all reaching for heaven. From back rooms and hovels Grigor has worked up to plant places of worship in Osta-Baille, hoping to spread them like seeds across the city and further beyond so that humanity may always have a shield against the Feonda.
